Ray and Sherry's Grand Adventure
And so it begins.... Some of you already know but for those who don't Ray and I have bought a 42' fifth wheel and an F350 truck, we are selling our house and hitting the road. Our adventure began yesterday. We spent our first night in the camper and lord help us we nearly froze to death! We went to bed with the windows open (it was a nice evening) and I woke up at 3:30 am freezing. I got up, closed all the windows and thought I turned on the fireplace heater but it was dark and I was half a sleep. I hit all the right buttons except the one that said HEAT! Needless to say I still freezing when I finally got up, lol. Any way, now we are on our way to Bowling Green to have a washer and dryer installed. (Hey don't laugh! I want to camp but I didn't say anything about roughing it!). We leave on our "Grand Adventure" on May 15 and plan on being gone for 6 months. Our first stop of more than a night our two will be Yellowstone so if any one wants to come see us that's where we'll be from May 24 to Aug 1. I'll post more along the way so stay tuned I'm sure it's going to good for a lot of laughs!
Ray and Sherry's Grand Adventure
The first day of the rest of our lives finally arrived. As of yesterday we are living on the road. As we do with all things we put off getting the house ready to sell until the very last minute and I do mean last minute! We were up until 1:00 am Monday morning cleaning out the house so that we would be able to leave as planned at daylight on Monday. Needless to say two old people don't do so good on No sleep! So we actually pulled out around 11:30am. Fred and Ethel (aka Ray and Sherry) and the two dogs were finally on their way to the first stop on their adventure, the ultra exciting city of Davenport, Iowa! We had to stop about every two hours so the dogs could pee (of course we needed to also but we blamed the frequency on the dogs). The dogs, unexpectedly, are quite good travelers, while driving any way. They just lay in the back seat and sleep. But...stopping is a whole different situation! It's like you have just awoken two Tasmanian Devils! They are both barking, trying to get out of the car before you can get the leash on and then trying to yank your arm out of socket when you do. Anyway after 8 hours in the car we finally get to lovely Davenport. We find the RV park but the office is already closed so we have to find our spot on our own, hahaha! We get the map they have left us with the spot marked and proceed to what we determine is the right place. There is this nice little man, whom we assume is going to be our neighbor, and he helps us get the RV parked (why he assumed we needed help I don't know! Maybe it was the glazed eyes and confused looks). We get the camper unhooked from the truck and start hooking up the utility's when Fred (Ray) notices that it is only a 30 amp hook up and we need 50 amp. After some discussion Fred and our new friend Jack discover we are in the wrong spot, imagine that! Sooo, we have to unhook everything and reattach the trailer to the truck and move it down the row about 1/2 a block. Now, we get all unhooked AGAIN, get all the utilities reconnected and we think all is well. Silly, us! I go in and start opening the slide outs and I'm thinking, great I can turn on the air, feed the dogs and then collapse, but nooo... it seems that we are too close to the electric box and when I extended the slide it pushed the electric box over. Again, hook up the truck pull the camper forward so the slide is past the electric box and try again! This time it all works, thank you Lord!
They says we will get better as we go, I, however am not so sure, but we are here, we are safe and we are exhausted. So we are going to rest up for a day and on Wednesday we head for Souix City, Iowa. Hope it's as exciting as Davenport, I'll let you know!
